Community Charter

Version 0.1Working Draft

A concise statement of the purpose, vision, principles, ecosystem, and decision test of the GetToKnow. You community.

Purpose

GetToKnow. You exists to help people move beyond superficial interaction and build more meaningful human relationships through curiosity, conversation, and genuine interest in others. It is inspired by the timeless principles of Dale Carnegie in How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Vision

We want to create a community in which people become better at getting to know one another—across cultures, generations, professions, languages, and life experiences.

Conversation is the mechanism.

Relationship is the destination.

Five Principles

1. Be genuinely curious

Ask because you want to understand, not merely because you are waiting to speak.

2. Go beyond the first answer

Meaningful relationships usually begin with the second question.

3. Share, do not interrogate

Good conversation is reciprocal: curiosity should be matched by appropriate openness.

4. Respect difference

The purpose is not to make everyone agree, but to understand how another person sees the world.

5. Turn conversation into relationship

A successful conversation should leave both people knowing, trusting, or caring about each other a little more.

Decision Test

Before starting an activity, partnership, product, or piece of content, ask:

  1. Does it help people become genuinely curious about others?
  2. Does it encourage deeper rather than merely more frequent interaction?
  3. Does it create reciprocity, trust, or understanding?
  4. Does it work across cultural or social boundaries?
  5. Is the likely outcome a stronger human relationship?

If the answer to most of these questions is no, it probably does not belong within GetToKnow.You.
